When Ava and Nigel defeated Croacus and retrieved the first Star, he was returned to normal and revealed that he never liked the Tallest and their ways.
In Legend of the Eight Firstborn, it was mentioned by Gruntilda Winkybunion that King Croacus was the victim of one of her Big-O-Blaster's shots. It's assumed he is currently a Heartless. This fact was proven as King Croacus made a return during The Scattered Realms stage, guarding Celebi's Spirit Ball in his new Heartless form, called the Croacus of Hearts. Cosmo and Nova had to battle this monster to rescue Celebi.
