Energybending (originally from Avatar) is the art of controlling spiritual energy, and is said to be the most powerful elemental form. Energy is the Element of Soul. It is the force where all other elements are born from, along with matter, and is the force which takes the form of elemental chi that all benders possess. Only the gods and spirits can bend energy in its true form, but powerful mortals, such as the Avatar or King, can control energy as it is. Its opposite is matterbending.

Energybending

Light

Primary force point:

The soul

Creator:

Arceus

Origin realm:

Spirit World

Matterbending

Techniques[]

Soul Ray[]

The most basic energybending attack, the bender can shoot a beam of energy to damage enemies.

Chi Blessing[]

Chi Blessing is the giving of element chi to any bender. The gods examine all mortals born in the universe, and should there be one worthy of their chi, they will give it to them. Some mortals are actually born with a chi flow through their parents, but may pend approval from the gods. The gods can also take away chi if they want to, but they don't except through the Deal of Battles.

Spirit Shift[]

A power that only mortals can officially use, if they have a strong spiritual bond, they can separate their soul from their body and enter the Spirit World. If they master energybending in spirit form, it will make their normal element chi stronger.

Halfas[]

Halfas are mortal beings who were infused with huge amounts of ectoplasm, resulting in them becoming a half-ghost. They are able to transform between their mortal body and a ghost, and gain all of the basic qualities and powers a ghost can use. It is similar to Spirit Shift, except their living body merely changes instead of being left behind. Halfas can use their ghost powers in human form as well.

Spiritual Awareness[]

Spiritual Awareness is the ability to see spirits. Any mortal can gain this ability by learning Spirit Shift or watching somebody die (mainly if that person was a close friend). They can still gain this ability if that person gets revived, such as through timebending.

Known Users:

Spirit Sense[]

Aside from being aware, energybenders can sense the presence and location of spirits. For ghosts, this "Ghost Sense" appears as a blue breath from the ghost's mouth.

Overshadowing[]

Considered a "dark" move to some extent, spirits can overshadow and partially control a mortal body. If they inhabit the body for a whole minute, the mortal dies (unless they have a strong will). If an element spirit enters a bender of the same element, the mortal's chi becomes more powerful.

Ectoplasm[]

Ectoplasm is a form of tainted spiritual energy. It is the composition of ghosts, spirits who haven't faced Underworld judgment and therefore haven't moved on to true death, ergo their pure energy is tainted. Ghosts are able to use ectoplasmic energy as they could normal energy, firing rays, possessing people, etc.. Ectoplasm is also very sticky, and its essence can be harnessed as a stopper to spirit beings, the same as chi-blocks.

Intangibility[]

Spirits and ghosts are able to phase through any physical object or turn invisible.

Deathbending[]

Deathbending is the dark and forbidden power to bring death to almost any living thing. Death Chi is granted to people by the Death God, Thanatos, although he was forbidden from doing so. The Grim Reaper's scythe is concentrated with this chi, plus magic energy. Grim provides Death Chi-blocks to mortals who have this power.

Deaf Chi[]

Deaf Chi, or deafbending, is the ability to temporarily silence someone's hearing.

Hyper Beam[]

A very powerful attack that mostly gods can use, the Hyper Beam is a golden-orange beam of heavily-concentrated energy that can destroy almost anything.

Hadō[]

Hadō (from Bleach) is a collection of combat abilities that utilize energybending and that any spirit can master. Similar to magic spells, benders can utter incantations to help mold the energy around them. The higher number the technique is on the chart, the more chi it consumes.

  • 1. Thrust - the bender launches a burst of kinetic energy from their finger.
  • 3. Slithering Rope - launches a yellow energy rope to snag targets or swing to places.
  • 4. Pale Lightning - the bender launches spiritual lightning from both hands.
    • 63. Fiery Lightning Howl - the bender builds energy into a yellow orb that launches as a powerful lightning bolt.
    • 88. Dragon Strike Heaven-Shaking Lightning Cannon - unleashes an extremely large and wide beam of lightning.
  • 8. Repulsion - conjures an orb of light that repels whatever strikes it.
  • 9. Strike - the bender draws a red symbol in the air that paralyzes the target.
  • 31. Red Flame Cannon - shoots a beam of light-red flame directly straight.
  • 32. Golden Flash - shoots a beam of light that is as wide as the bender's Zanpakutō.
  • 33. Pale Fire Crash - unleashes a blast of spirit fire from either of the bender's hands.
    • 73. Twin Lotuses, Pale Fire Crash - an advanced form of the technique that fires twice as much power from both hands.
  • 54. Abolition Flame - shoots a small body of purple energy that encases the target in flames upon impact.
  • 57. Ground Swell Dance - the bender makes spirit-made objects launch into the air and fly toward a target.
  • 58. Tornado - the bender spins their sword to shoot a tornado straight forward.
  • 78. Slicing Flower Ring - the bender slashes their Zanpakutō in a circular fashion and expands a flower-shaped ring of energy to slice surrounding foes.
  • 90. Black Coffin - the bender conjures a black coffin to trap opponents, followed by piercing the coffin with spears.
  • 91. Thousand-Hand Bright Heaven Cannon - the bender conjures 10 pink energy spheres around them that launch as beams, causing a devastating explosion.
  • 96. Flame Sword Burial - creates a massive pillar of red fire that can destroy all within its range. Use of this technique can destroy a spirit's body.
  • 99. Five Dragon Destruction - the bender erupts energy from the ground that transforms into five dragons to attack opponents.

Zanpakutō[]

Zanpakutō (originally from Bleach) are Spirit Swords that all spirits and ghosts are born with. By bonding with their Soul Chi, they are able to materialize a Zanpakutō to fight with. With enough training, they can learn the Zanpakutō's name and awaken a special power inside it. Most Zanpakutō are swords, but they can take the form of guns or other weapons. There are also magic-type Zanpakutō, which take the form of wands and can be used for magical abilities, usually based around a theme or pattern.

Below are a list of Zanpakutō, their users, and their abilities.

Soul Soccer[]

Used by Karin Kurosaki, her sword takes the form of a soccer ball, which Karin can kick and launch at vast distances. She can will spikes to grow on it, which increase the damage done to enemies, and she can will it to spin and drill against them. She can attached an Ecto Rope from her foot to the ball, allowing her to quickly yank it back and fling it around with extra kinetic energy.

Kyōka Suigetsu[]

Used by Sōsuke Aizen, he is able to manipulate anyone's senses in any fashion, creating illusions that either look real, smell real, or feel present. However, if an icebender like Suki Crystal completely freezes her senses, the power will not affect them.

Flutterwing[]

Used by Leic Spirithive, it allows him to turn spirits into butterflies, be they sentient or inanimate, and he can turn peoples' emotions into butterflies and have them leave their body. Those emotions return after a short while. He can transform the chi of benders into butterflies as well, then potentially use that chi to attack his foes in sneak attacks. Furthermore, the butterflies harness Leic's own chi as they develop on him, transforming into different energybending attacks that strike his foes. Leic's butterflies also act as shields or footholds for him in the air, in case his wings become immobile.

If Leic confines himself to a cocoon or tight enclosing, his body will morph into a Hybrid Butterfly form. His body becomes extra slippery to better make blunt attacks slide off, and he can spread butter over his foes to make them slip. He can make butterflies grow inside their bodies to dizzy them.

Elizabeth and Patricia Thompson[]

Used by Death the Kid, they are twin guns inhabited by two tiny cowgirl spirits, Liz and Patty. By linking the guns, he can fire single bullets that the cowgirls ride and kick to change direction as they search for opponent weak points.

Phan Art[]

Used by Emily Matthews, her sword turns into a pencil, with which she draws fan art of her favorite cartoons on a sketchpad. Those cartoons come to life and attack her opponents.

Sakutaro[]

Used by Ushiromiya Maria (from Umineko: When They Cry), a magic scepter that lets her shrink people to fit inside her dollhouses. Her living toys can "sew" peoples' wounds, thus healing them with magic.

Milenios[]

Used by Cortez, he has the power to multiply anything by a thousand. It can multiply itself, people or objects, as well as Power Levels. The multiplied objects assume different shapes, with Milenios itself (normally a cutlass) taking the form of hooks or other swords when multiplied.

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap[]

Used by Valentine, he is able to open portals to parallel universes and pull out their inhabitants, which are copies of people in the main universe. These copies originate from smaller, "inferior universes" that were overpowered by the main, "Miracle Universe." These copies' memories are also manipulated to consider Valentine a friend whom they will fight for.

One That Covers[]

Used by Skull Face, a gun-type that can create and reproduce parasites that infect spirits and form special armor over them. The armor can be enhanced skin for defense, fiery bodies, camouflage that use Chi Concealing, as well as mist to rust targets. Anyone wearing the parasites will be controlled by them.

Skull Face upgraded the parasites to recognize and adapt to different languages, then sicken people based on a targeted language. This power is able to infect mortals.

Dr. Stone[]

Used by Ibara, Dr. Stone (originally from the manga of the same name) can turn any form of Spirit Chi into that of Earth Chi, such as turning mortal spirits into statues. The Zanpakutō is voice-activated: by naming a distance and a time, it will explode its energy at that distance after that time has passed (such as five meters, one second). Ibara can also will a small light to emit over it continuously, allowing him to try and swing it against opponents and turn small parts of them to stone, or to whirl around the air to form stone barriers around himself.

Dr. Stone resembles a Trefoil Knot attached to a string, allowing Ibara to throw and swing it around like a yo-yo.

Madama Butterfly[]

Used by Bayonetta, a dual-sword Zanpakutō that grows butterfly wings on her to help her fly, and lets her use "Witch Time" to slow down time. She cannot attack anyone outside of Witch Time.

Phantom Thieves' Zanpakutō[]

  • Arsene - used by Joker; allows him to turn spirits into masks and make them fight for him for a short time. When two masks are removed at once, they can fuse into a stronger mask. He can only hold up to 20.
  • Zorro - used by Morgana; the primary ability that lets the thieves enter dreamscapes through use of Keywords. Morgana can also turn into a van to carry his team.
  • Johanna - used by Makoto; a motorcycle she uses for quick transportation. It can form large energy balls that the wheels can knock into opponents with great force.
  • Necronomicon - used by Futaba Sakura; allows her to hack security systems. She can do this through her friends' phones as well.
  • Captain Kidd - used by Ryuji; allows him to turn targets magnetic as metal objects fly into them.
  • Carmen - used by Ann; each time Ann strikes someone, a new piece of clothing gets added, making the foe steadily become heavier. However, the clothing can be cut off by others.
  • Goemon - used by Yusuke Kitagawa; lets him trap opponents inside picture frames. They can escape with enough willpower.
  • Milady - used by Haru Okumura; lets her cut people into three, smaller clones (a reference to the Three Musketeers).
  • Cendrillon - used by Violet; by kicking opponents, then clacking her heels, glass slippers will appear on their feet, getting smaller and squeezing them with each clack. The slippers can be broken.
  • Robin Hood - used by Crow; he can shoot arrows at objects in order to warp them to himself, stealing them like Robin Hood. It does not work on objects with special protection.
  • Loki - also used by Crow; it can turn Paradisos into Hollows and drive spirits to madness.

Soul Evans[]

Used by Black☆Star, while she normally appears as chain scythes, she can transform into many other weapons to fit her master's needs.

Known Energybenders[]

Other Traits[]

Energybenders must be very close with their spiritual self and their inner soul.

Weaknesses[]

Energybending attacks, including Zanpakutō, are less effective on mortals, though they will still display some sort of temporary effect.

Trivia[]

  • While Zanpakutō originate from Bleach, they are sort of treated similar to Stands from JoJo or Personas from Persona. Just as well, some Stands and Personas appear in the Gameverse as Zanpakutō.
